Midway Airlines - Mug
Midway Airlines was a U.S. airline based in Chicago, Illinois, founded in 1976 and beginning operations in 1979. It is notable for revitalizing Chicago Midway Airport, which was nearly abandoned at the time. Over its lifespan, Midway pursued various business models, starting as a discount carrier, then shifting to an all-business-class airline, and later becoming a conventional hub carrier. While it survived the 1980s, it struggled with profitability. In 1991, Midway purchased Eastern Air Lines' Philadelphia hub, which led to financial difficulties and a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in March. A potential deal with Northwest Airlines fell through, and Midway ceased operations on November 13, 1991.
