Air Namibia was the national airline of Namibia, headquartered in Windhoek. It operated domestic, regional, and international flights, with hubs at Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport and Windhoek Eros Airport. The airline's origins date back to 1946 when it was founded as South West Air Transport (SWAT), beginning operations in 1949. After Namibia gained independence, the airline was renamed Air Namibia in 1991. By 2018, it served 18 destinations in Africa and Europe. Despite its long history, the airline faced continuous financial losses and, overwhelmed by debt, was shut down and liquidated by the Namibian government in February 2021.
