Air Jamaica was first founded on August 27, 1963, as Jamaica Air Service Ltd., with the Jamaican government, British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), and BWIA as shareholders. It began flights to Miami and New York in 1966.
Air Jamaica is an airline founded in 1968 by the Jamaican government. It has achieved several notable milestones over the years, including being the first Caribbean airline to operate a Boeing 747 aircraft and expanding its route network to include destinations in Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. On May 1, 2010, Caribbean Airlines acquired Air Jamaica’s fleet and routes, effectively taking over the airline’s operations.
